Lai Yuen Super Summer 2016

Loads of fun and exciting activities at AsiaWorld-Expo

【23 May 2016, Hong Kong】Lai Yuen, an iconic amusement park in Hong Kong, will be restored to AsiaWorld-Expo this summer, offering even more diversified, exciting and fun activities between July 15 – August 7. As one of this year’s must-visit summer attractions, where families, friends and lovers alike can create unique memories, “Lai Yuen Super Summer 2016” embodies the “Lai Yuen spirit” by bringing happiness to everyone.

“We hope that Lai Yuen can keep up with the times by introducing different types of activities for parents, children and youngsters, ultimately enabling everyone to enjoy a summer holiday that is both rewarding and fun,” says Duncan Chiu, chairman of Lai Yuen Amusement Park Limited. “We have taken some suggestions and thus have selected an indoor venue for the main area this year. It will provide a comfortable and safe environment for our visitors enjoying our entertainment facilities. In the future, Lai Yuen will strive to be an entertainment production platform for creating unforgettable memories.”

“Lai Yuen Super Summer 2016” will feature indoor and outdoor entertainment facilities spanning a total area of 19,000 square metres, including an indoor area of 11,000 square metres and an outdoor area of 8,000 square metres.

Seven must-visit attractions and entertainment facilities of “Lai Yuen Super Summer 2016” include:

1.     Happy Summer with Sofye

This summer, Lai Yuen will collaborate with famous Hong Kong illustrator Lam Pei, whose popular character “Flying Sofye” will bring visitors on a hunt for hidden treasures of Lai Yuen’s good old days. Sofye is a cute and mischievous girl who loves to scavenge hidden treasures from antiques and encourage people to cherish everything. Upon stepping into Lai Yuen, visitors will be greeted with a large-scale art installation of Sofye. A brand-new experience and exceptional summer holiday is in store for everyone who visits Lai Yuen this summer.

2.     Lai Yuen x Sofye's Fantasy World

In addition to the large-scale art installation, Sofye will invite everyone to her fantasy world – a creative and delightful maze. Create unforgettable, fond memories together with Sofye as you join her on an adventure to search for her friends.

3.     Lai Yuen - Yo-Kai Watch Incredible Journey

Not to be missed by kids, Lai Yuen presents Hong Kong’s first Yo-Kai Watch Town. Kids can play interactive games with characters from Yo-Kai Watch, such as Jibanyan, Whisper, Komasan, Komajiro and Himojii. Through these games, reaction time, pairing and cognitive abilities will be tested. Each visitor will receive a stamp collection card as they begin this incredible journey. Visitors who have collected all stamps will have the chance to receive a surprise gift. Gifts are subject to availability. A Yo-Kai Watch Pop Up Store within the attraction offers a wide selection of products for fans.

4.     Petite Family Garden

Parents and kids can seek solace from the scorching summer heat and participate in workshops within a comfortable environment, under a special setting that blends human and nature together. Activities range from crafts to science experiments to parent-child communication workshop, giving working parents the opportunity to spend some wonderful downtime with their kids amid their busy schedules.

5.     ChariTEE

Everyone can be a fashion designer at Lai Yuen – express your boundless imagination and creativity, and use various media such as coloured pencils, stamps, stickers and magnets to create one-of-a-kind T-shirts. Infuse your design with innovative technology by scanning it with the Snaptee scanner to instantly simulate your work being printed onto a T-shirt. A link to a crowdfunding webpage will be provided for instant online purchase as well as sharing with friends and families. Proceeds of each T-shirt sold (after deduction of costs) will be donated to charity organisation Heifer International – Hong Kong to support families suffering from hunger and poverty.

6.     Inflatable Mad Dash

Remember those extremely challenging inflatable obstacle courses, often seen on the television? Lai Yuen will be bringing one of these sets to Hong Kong this summer. This 110 metre-long attraction will be the longest indoor inflatable obstacle course that Hong Kong has ever seen – a perfect option for those wishing to challenge their friends with an activity that is refreshing, thrilling and healthy all at once.

7.     XRace

Hong Kong’s first electric go-kart facility will appear in Lai Yuen next to the AsiaWorld-Expo exhibition hall, covering about 8,000 square metres of space and featuring a track length of 650 metres (crash barriers 1,400 metres). With a speed of up to 50 km/h, the brand-new RiMO electric go-karts from Germany are currently the highest-end, highest-performance and safest of its kind in the market, offering the thrill of racing for aspiring racecar drivers. Designed by Michael Kolbinger, the racetrack designer for Michael Schumacher, this racetrack will be operated by electric go-kart experts from Germany. Working together with a team of professional go-kart track consultants from Hong Kong, the experts will ensure the safety of this attraction. Lap times will be recorded for all participants – the all-time record holder of fastest lap time will be awarded two Grand Stand tickets for the FIA Formula E third season race series’ inaugural Hong Kong ePrix. Admission to XRace is not included in the Lai Yuen package ticket. Please make reservations online. Admission ticket for XRace costs HKD 280 per person.

Apart from brand-new attractions, Lai Yuen will retain some classic games and activities, such as TINO the elephant, Tile Game, Bumper Car and Grand Stage.
